Biography

John started his journey with Sec Service in 2002, becoming a partner in 2007. Since 2014 John has specialized in ‘financial mis-selling’ litigation, particularly litigation involving pensions, investments and the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

John and the Sec Service team were the first to bring volume litigation against finance companies on behalf of consumers in relation to the mis-selling of solar panel systems. This technically challenging work has gone on to shape the way in which the Financial Ombudsman Service handles solar panel consumer complaints after initially rejecting them. This work has led to thousands of settlements, not just for Sec Service’s clients but many other consumers affected by sales practices in the solar panel industry.

During the same period, John oversaw Sec Service’s professional negligence team successfully pursuing thousands of cases involving unsuitable/negligent advice given by Independent Financial Advisers. The team has helped consumers in relation to pension and investment advice they received to invest in high-risk unregulated products and has recovered tens of millions to support clients in their retirement.

John’s work in these areas has led to him regularly featuring in the media to offer insight and thought leadership in relation to particular legal issues affecting consumers.

John is responsible for developing new work areas, working alongside barristers, litigation funders, insurers and business partners as well as Sec Service’s internal teams to devise effective processes ensuring that clients have the best experience possible whilst looking to achieve the best possible result for them.
